How I’m Playing the Microsoft Surface Tablet

I must admit that I was one of the many watching Yahoo’s live tech blog for the Microsoft announcement.  The consensus was that it was going to be a tablet and sure enough, it was.

I’m not one to geek out on tech, but I am jazzed about this.  For the first time since I can recall, Microsoft actually looked at the needs of their potential users and designed something to meet those needs.  I love the look, I love the stand and I really love the keyboard (since I absolutely despise the touchscreen keyboards).  The fact that developers would rather build apps based on the iOS and Android OS than for Windows will be the biggest issue.  Microsoft is really going to have to find ways to win the hearts of the app developers to make this work.  Otherwise it won’t dent the market.

Since I enjoy playing the Wall St. ponies, I immediately tried to come up with ways to play this.  I’ve owned MSFT for ages (and will continue to do so for ages more), but it seems to me that MSFT isn’t the only way to play this.  I picked up some Nvidia this morning.  They make the graphics card for both the iPad and the Surface (as well as kickass cards for desktops).  The company makes money, the financials look reasonable as they have lots of cash and not much debt and it’s trading way below it’s all time high.  I’m sure I high ticked it, but whatev.  I just buy and hold nowadays anyway (no time to play for eighths and quarters anymore).

We’ll see what happens with it.  For the record, this post should not be seen as a recommendation, advice or anything like that.  Just writing about something I’m buying.  Do your own due diligence and for the love of all that is good and holy, do not listen to anything I have to say.
