Five for Friday SEO Style

Since I’m going to be bitching talking about SEO more in the foreseeable future, I figured I’d use today to pimp a few of the folks that do it right when it comes to Search Engine Optimization.  The few, the proud, the non-sleazy.

  • Outspoken Media: Great SEO firm.  Had the pleasure of having breakfast with Lisa Barone last year at PUBCON and she really did strike me as one of the good ones in this business.  Plus, her liveblogging on all the major conferences is 8 degrees of awesome.
  • Bruce Clay: Simply put, the SEO OG.  He preaches everything that is important in SEO (good content, good links, good site structure) instead of taking the “I won’t tell you anything without a contract and a $5,000 retainer” like so many others.
  • SEO Book: Aaron Wall is a One Man Gang when it comes to raging against the Google machine.  Lately he’s been more about pointing out Google’s inconsistencies in policy, but he’s angry, articulate and funny (pretty much everything I look for in a blog).
  • Gray Wolf:  Tons of useful information from Michael Gray.  He seems to know exactly where the line is between hats, going right up to the line without crossing over to the dark side.
  • PUBCON: The single best search engine optimization conference and event.  I’ve been to a ton of conferences over the years, but this is the only one that’s ever really been worth the price of admission.  If only it wasn’t in Vegas.  Seriously, anywhere but Vegas.

Ok, that’s all I’ve got.  This week’s crunchy groove comes from Neil Young revisiting Massey Hall back in 2007.  Doesn’t matter how old the cat gets, he’s still the man.  Out.

Five For Friday – Campbell Hall Edition

Still trying to get the time to do the APA write up.  I swear, being out of the office for a week and then trying to catch up is completely draining.  Quiet weekend though, so hopefully it will give me some time to write.  In the meantime, here’s some link love for some of the peeps I went to high school with:

  • Campbell Hall – My alma mater.  I was there from 4th grade through high school graduation.  Great school, great teachers.  No way I could ever afford to send my kids there though (which is one of the many reasons we decided to not raise a family in LA).
  • Ptero Dance Theater – Award winning dance group led by Paula Present.  She graduated a year before me, but still one very cool chica.  Plus, she does that cool hair whip thing.  Anyone that can get out on stage and do their thing in front of a huge audience is totally baller in my book.
  • Rotten Tomatoes – A cool cat from my class is the Editor in Chief over at RT.  Seriously Matt has to have one of the sweetest gigs ever.  Going to see movies, talking about movies, going to premiers.  Of course I’m guessing there’s more to it than that, but still sounds like a dream gig to me.
  • The Comet – New website that was launched by my classmate Tamara.  All about the music biz, which makes sense as she was the Editor in Chief for Billboard magazine before going and doing her own thing.  Good stuff, especially if you’re into the music biz.
  • Strata IT – Outsourced IT services for small businesses.  Pete founded and runs the place and knows his stuff.  Located in the Valley.  Encino on Ventura Blvd to be exact.  Totally bitchin’!

Closing out the week with a little Zappa Plays Zappa since we’re talking the Valley and the Zappas were staples there.  Hell, I used to play little league with Dweezil and my sis went to grade school with him (totally wicked fastball).  Plus, there’s something pretty damn moving about seeing Frank’s kids performing a tribute show like this.  Out.
